Balayage & Ombre Wigs FAQs

What is Ombre?

Ombre is a gradual phase of dark to light. When technique is applied to hair, the roots remain natural or darkened, if need be. The objective of the hair is to be gradually blended from one color hue to another, moving shades from dark to light. The key is to blend the colors smoothly, or the transition colors will look blocky.

What is Balayage?

Balayage is a technique where stylists use a coloring brush to “paint” bio hair. They will skim the top layer of hair with lightner. Starting at the ends, the stylists will “sweep” the hair upwards towards the root to create a grown-out look.

What is the difference between Balayage and Ombre?

Balayage and ombre often get mistaken for each other. While these two hair trends share similarities, their application techniques and appearances are different. A good way to tell the difference between balayage and ombre is how the color transitions through the hair. With ombre, this transition is more dramatic with the color going from dark to light. On the other hand, balayage is more subtle because the bottom of the hair is left darker for a more natural appearance.

How can I take care of my balayage/ombre wig?

Caring for your balayage/ombre wig will help prolong its life span and maintain the color. Here are some important tips to keep in mind:

  • After 6 to 8 wears, wash your wig.
  • Use a wide tooth comb to smooth out any knots or tangles. Additionally, use a good detangling spray for synthetic fibers.
  • When you style and wash your wig, use styling and care products that are specially made for wigs and formulated their fiber type.
  • When you're not wearing your wig, place it on a wig stand or store it safely in its wig box for long term storage.

Can I dye my wig to get the balayage or ombre effect?

We do not recommend dying your wig. Wigs come in many colors, it’s much easier to find the color you want instead of risking ruining or damaging the hair fibers from dye. Always take your wig to a salon professional if you want to customize it.
