Lemonade For A Childhood Cancer Cure
We've all heard the saying "When life hands you lemons… Make lemonade!" Well, this story and cause is the perfect example of how to live out that saying. Meet Alexandra Scott or Alex as she is known as through her namesake organization to cure childhood cancer.Alex was born January 18, 1996. By her first birthday, she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma which is an aggressive and very deadly childhood cancer.
Doctors said that it was highly unlikely he she would ever walk, but just two weeks later she was moving her legs… This was an indication of who Alex was going to be!
Alex wanted to raise money to find a cure for all children with cancer. When she was four years old she held her first fundraiser in her front yard with a simple lemonade stand. Her goal? To raise $1 million to help fight childhood cancer.
Alex died in 2004 at the age of eight but did raise her million dollars and inspired a beautiful movement of hope and cures for childhood cancer. Her family picked up her torch and have carried on Alex's amazing legacy
Through Alex's lemonade stand Alex's big dreams lead to big accomplishments. Her tenacity compelled her to exceed doctors expectations. Her heart lead her to exceed man's expectations for her mission became to help others in her short life.
While battling her own cancer, Alex and her family never failed to have her lemonade stand in hopes to finding a cure for childhood cancer. Alex's lemonade stand has now become an amazing organization dedicated to helping Alex's memory live on in her pursuit of helping other sick children.
Now people all over the world who were touched by her story hold of their own lemonade stands and donate the proceeds to Alex and her cause.
Like many around the world, The team at wigs.com fell in love with Alex and her mission. Cancer in anyone is a terrible thing… But a child having to battle cancer is heartbreaking. We want to do our part to help Alex's cause and carry her torch just a little bit further down the road.
On Friday, June 8, 2018 wigs.com will honor Alex's lemonade stand by hosting a lemonade stand in our building at the CBS television tower in Dallas. We will also have a site wide sale on wigs.com and donate 5% of our sales to help fight childhood cancer.
I wish I could've met Alex. I'm familiar with her passion but can never imagine the kind of drive that must compel a sick and hurting child to push through for the greater good. What an amazing little girl she must have been. Her lasting impact will most likely help millions of children… Who doesn't want to be part of that good news?
