3 Wig Care Tips for Winter

December 15th, 2023

Winter is here which means frigid temperatures, snowstorms, coats and scarves. The dry and blustery air can easily transform our once voluminous hairstyles into flat and tangled messes. Thankfully, taking a few extra steps to protect your wig can make all the difference between having great hair days during the holiday season or dealing with lifeless locks. Here are our top 3 tips to successfully winterize your wig and keep your tresses looking their best.

#1 Don’t skip the conditioner

Whether it’s leave-in conditioner for your synthetic wig or a deep conditioning treatment on your human hair wig, this step in your hair care routine is especially important to create a protective barrier and lock in moisture during the colder, dryer months.

#2 Detangle often

Scarves and coats cause extra friction and tangling, especially with longer wigs. Keep a wide tooth comb and travel size detangling spray in your bag, and remember to detangle throughout the day. Be sure to concentrate at the nape of your wig where it’s more prone to tangling.

#3 Cover up

If you plan on spending a significant amount of time outdoors (or more than just a quick dash to your car), cover and protect your hair. Whether it’s an umbrella, a soft scarf or a loose hat with your hair carefully tucked underneath, protecting your hair from the elements while you’re getting from A to B is the goal. You can also retain your wig’s moisture overnight by covering it with a satin scarf or pillow case since the air in your home can be just as dry as the air outside.
We hope these simple tips help you conquer tangles and banish dry hair all season long!
