Layered Wigs FAQs

What are layered wigs?

A layered wig is where the hair is cut into various lengths. These layered cuts can be throughout the hair, at the ends of the hair, or be focused around the face. What’s awesome about layered cuts is that they can be short, mid-length, or long, so you can always enjoy a layered hairstyle no matter the length.

Can I customize the layering style of a wig to match my desired look?

While you can customize the layered style of a wig, we highly recommend taking your layered wig to a salon professional. Trying to customize your wig might damage the hair fibers and ruin the wig. If you are looking for a particular layered style, check out our layered wig collection. We have a multitude of layered wigs in every haircut, length, and color, so you can easily find your perfect match.

How do layered wigs complement various face shapes?

What’s great about layered wigs is that they look great with all face shapes. Here is an overview of which layered cuts look best with each face shape:

  • Heart-shaped faces look great sporting a long, layered hair cut with side swept bangs.
  • Diamond-shaped faces are complemented with a layered cut and side-swept bangs.
  • Square-shaped faces are better suited with long, gradual layers starting at the chin.
  • Oval-shaped faces are ideal for long, layered cuts with shoulder-length hair. These face shapes are also complemented by layered pixie cuts.
  • Round face shapes look great with a long, layered cut.

Are there layered wigs made from different materials, such as human hair or synthetic?

The hair fiber featured on layered wigs can be crafted with either synthetic fiber or human hair.

  • Synthetic wigs are made with premium synthetic fibers that imitate the feel and look of natural hair. Some wigs designed with synthetic hair are even made with heat friendly synthetic fibers, so you can style the hair with heat tools.
  • Human hair wigs are designed with real human hair that looks and feels like your natural hair.

The caps of layered wigs have different constructions:

  • Basic cap wigs are designed by sewing sections of hair, also known as wefts, into a thin elastic material. The open spacing around the wefts allow air to pass through for a breathable style.
  • Monofilament wigs refer to the sheer mesh fabric that allows the color of your own scalp to show through the fibers tied to the top of the wig. The hair is either tied or sewn into sections into the top portion of the cap. Full monofilament tops allow you to part or brush the hair in any direction.
  • Lace front wigs give you a realistic hairline because the hairs are hand tied into the see-through lace material that extends across the top front of the wig. Depending on the the style, wigs with lace fronts can range from across the forehead to extending to the ears.
  • Hand tied wigs are where the individual hairs are tied by hand into the cap to create the appearance of hair growth. These types of wigs are also a great option if you have a sensitive scalp!

What is the difference between uniform layers and textured layers in wigs?

The difference between uniform layers and textured layers in wigs is their layering technique. Uniform layers are where the layers are the same length. Textured layers accentuate a haircut by incorporating various layers that help create movement and volume in the hair while eliminating bulk.
