  • Before We Begin:

How often you wear your human hair wig and what environment you live in will determine how often you should wash your wig. With daily wear in a moderate climate, you should wash a human hair wig every 8-10 wears.

How To Wash Human Hair Wig

    Step 1: Detangle

Making sure your hair is free of tangles before washing ensures that you have an even surface area for products. Using a wide tooth comb, start gently detangling the hair at the ends first to prevent shedding. Work your way up the hair shaft towards the cap until your human hairpiece is free of tangles.

    Wide Tooth Wig Comb

You can use a paddle brush to detangle your wig, but we recommend a wide tooth comb to ensure a gentle touch.

    Step 2: Rinse

Now, you will start the cleansing process. Start by rinsing your wig from root to ends using lukewarm running water. Never use hot water. Washing your hair with hot water will cause the fiber to swell and eventually dry out your piece.

Do not dunk or hold the wig too low in the sink. Both actions will cause tangles at the bottom of your wig.

    Step 3: Shampoo

Once your wig is fully saturated, grab your Hydrating Shampoo by BeautiMark. Pour a small amount in your hands and massage gently to loosen the product. Then, apply the shampoo to your wig in a downward motion while massaging the shampoo gently into the strands.

Once all the fibers are cleansed, make sure to wash the inside of your wig’s cap. This step is essential as sweat and oils collect in your wig’s base materials when wearing.

Massage the shampoo gently on the cap materials in circular motions with your fingertips. For more tips on how to care for the base of your wig, read on here. Washing your wig cap is an essential step to make sure your human hair wig is thoroughly cleaned during your wash routine.

    Washing Wig Caps

    Step 4: Rinse

Once you’ve finished cleansing the hair and cap, rinse your wig under running lukewarm water from root to ends. When all the shampoo has been thoroughly rinsed out of the hair, squeeze the strands to remove excess water. Do not ring the hair. This motion will cause the strands to tangle.

    Step 5: Condition

After you’ve removed the excess water from your piece, take a small amount of BeautiMark’s Intensive Recovery Conditioner and massage your hands before applying it to the piece. Coat the hair strands starting at the ends. Work your way up the hair shaft until you reach about an inch away from the wig cap. To ensure you coat all the hair in the conditioner, try working in sections.

    Human Hair Conditioners

Do not apply conditioner to the hairs’ roots. The product may loosen the hair knots on your piece and can cause increased shedding. Let the conditioner sit for a few minutes to make sure your fibers get the best hydrating treatment.

If you are washing your wig during cooler months or live in a dry climate, your human hair wig could use a deep conditioning treatment. Use your Intensive Recovery Conditioner as a hair mask to ensure thorough deep conditioning. Leave the conditioner in the hair for an hour or even overnight before rinsing out the product.

    Step 6: Rinse

After conditioning, rinse all product out of the hair using downward flowing lukewarm water. Once complete, rinse your human hair wig with cool water to seal the hair cuticle. Using cool water adds a healthy luster to the hair.

    Step 7: Dry

To dry your human hair wig, squeeze the strands to remove the excess water just as you did after shampooing. Then, lay your wig down flat on a towel and blot dry the hair with the towel.

    Step 8: Prep for Styling

Lastly, place your freshly cleaned human hair wig on your folding wig stand. Now is the time to gently define your hair part. Setting the part while the hair is wet will ensure that the hair will stay put when it is dry.

Once the wig is on your wig stand, spray your piece with BeautiMark’s 3-in-1 Miracle Protect spray to lock in moisture that will give your style natural, healthy movement. This spray will also act as heat protection when you blow-dry your wig.
