Can You Wear a Wig While It's Wet?
FEBUARY 28, 2023
The simple answer is yes, but it’s not recommended. Over the next couple blogs, we’ll talk about showering with a wig on as well as swimming in a wig. Even if you’re caught up in an unexpected rainstorm and had zero intention of getting your hair wet, it’s how you care for your wig afterwards that matters.
Water can cause wig fibers to tangle and mat up which usually results in frizzed fiber, hair loss and potentially even damage to the cap. If you do find yourself in a situation where you’ll be wearing a wet wig, there are some precautions to keep in mind.
Precautions to Take
- If you’re taking a rinse in the shower or a dip in the pool, clip your hair up and avoid submerging it in water.
- Try to avoid combing or brushing until your wig has dried. If you have to, be extremely gentle and work from the ends up to the root.
- Always use a detangler or conditioning spray with a wide tooth comb to reduce pulling on the hair while detangling.
- Make sure your wig has dried completely before storing it away.
- Have a separate wig for your H2O activities so that you can keep your daily wig in its best condition.
