Can You Cook With a Synthetic Wig On?

With the holidays around the corner, you may be wondering if you can cook with a synthetic wig on, especially if it's made with non-heat friendly fibers. While heat from kitchen appliances can cause damage to synthetic wigs, there are some steps you can take to prevent kitchen mishaps.

5 Tips for Cooking With a Wig On

Jenna from @jennafail shares helpful tips on how to protect your wig while cooking.

Wear a heat-friendly wig: Heat-friendly fibers are designed to withstand heat (to a certain degree of course) and are a much safer option in the kitchen.

Opt for a shorter style: The likelihood of heat damage is a lot lower when you’re wearing a short bob versus a long, layered style. You won’t run the risk of dipping your hair into a pot of boiling water or burning it in an oven rack.

Put up your hair: Tie or clip your hair back and away from your face. You can even wear a stretchy headband that covers the front portion of your wig and keeps your locks from getting loose.

Have a back-up: Accidents happen, and you wouldn’t want to ruin your favorite hairstyle from a kitchen mishap. Consider investing in a wig specifically reserved for cooking.

Wash your wig: If you’re cooking with strong smells (such as onions or garlic), the odors can get trapped in the fibers. Be sure to wash your wig with specially formulated shampoo geared towards its fiber type to keep it smelling fresh and clean. You can also use Beautimark’s Purifi Spray to help get rid of those odors.

Cook With Caution

Remember to exercise caution when you cook with a synthetic wig on. When you’re wearing your favorite hairstyle while opening an oven or cooking over a stove, the heat may singe (or burn) the wig’s fibers, causing irreversible damage. However, with a little extra care and preparation, holiday cooking can be a breeze. With these tips, you’ll be ready to whip up delicious feasts while looking fabulous—no singed strands in sight! Happy cooking!
